BCBS coverage for lactation care
There have been many changes with lactation coverage over the past year. Right now, BCBS is refusing to contract with IBCLCs in Tennessee unless they hold another license.
BCBS is making it difficult for you to access your covered lactation care.
How can I use my lactation benefits with East Tennessee Lactation?
Step 1: Call your insurance plan and request a Gap Exception for your lactation care. If approved, this will treat your appointments as in-network. You may need information from our office to complete your form. Feel free to contact us here.
Step 2: Schedule your appointment. You will be required to pay up-front for your visit with us. Following your appointment, we will provide you with a superbill that you will submit for reimbursement.
We will continue to advocate for change. We realize the impact this has on breastfeeding moms and babies (when you need help, you need it quickly!)
Please let your plan know how you feel about lack of access to care. Your voice matters.
